There are several things an athlete can do to improve their safety (i.e., minimize the risks of attacks / injury).  Some of these are:

Run in a group (that’s part of what we’re here for).

Have identification (e.g., Road ID, drivers license) on you.

  1. Let someone know where you’ll be, and when to expect your return.  The Road ID phone app is a good tool for this purpose.
  2. Carry pepper spray.
  3. Have headlights and / or flashing LED lights to improve your visibility to other pedestrians, and bicycle, or vehicular traffic.
